Getting started in the Web Industry
Posted October 16th, 2007 in Industry, Personal
I am honoured to have been invited back this year again to do a talk to final year multimedia students at Edith Cowan University, entitled ‘Getting started in the Web Industry‘. Thanks to Joe Luca who invited me along, and the students who took some of their afternoon out to hear me discuss ways to get a job in the Perth web industry.
I’m sure most of the students have heard the old talks about presentation and networking one hundred times before, but I’m hoping hearing it from an industry perspective, instead of just a lecturer, might mean that it drives the knowledge further to them. That, and the fact I managed to put images of robots, nudity, graffiti and lolcat speak all in one 22 slide presentation, should do the trick.
I’ve uploaded the slides to slideshare.net. You can see them over here. In a first (for me at least) these slides and this post were not only prepared, but uploaded prior to the presentation, and basically ‘went live’ whilst I was still speaking, thanks to the scheduling feature in Wordpress.

I just wanted to say (from my uni friends and I) that we thought the presentation you offered at ECU was informative and helpful and delivered in a way that was fresh and fun.
Thank you for your time and also for the additional links that you supplied.
