[...] Since starting to accept advertising back in April 2006, I have been amazed at the growth of opportunities which this humble blog has had. It took about 2 months for me to be able to afford that lunch per month, as I suggested in the original post, then within six months, I was selling enough advertising (mostly through Text Link Ads [aff]) to buy lunch every second week.
I concur with Darren on the caution of clicking too many ads. I've had this happen to a friend of mine - he was guilty of asking a bunch of friends to click on the links on his sites. Google tracked it down & has since banned him from using Adsense.

My last point is I am sure you can actually generate more than a lunch a month from your blogs, unless you spend $5000 on lunch!

You're right -- almost everyone that has a blog these days is looking to make some money off it. I agree about going ahead and clicking links that you are truly interested in. After all, that's what they're there for!

I've been experimenting with AdSense for a year or so now, and my opinion is that blogs are not the best place for those kinds of ads. They really perform on informational sites - we get a cheque every single month now from our oft-neglected work experience experimentation vehicle http://www.lookatwa.com.au/ - while my other sites and blogs, which average about the same amount of traffic between them, are lucky to get a cheque every six months.

hey - thanks for the link and nice post.

be a little careful with clicking others links. Like you say - only do it if it's an ad you're interested in as unnatural clicks (repeated ones) can get people in trouble (the people you're tryig to help). Be aware that your IP address is being tracked by Google also. So if you're an Adsense publisher it could have an impact upon your own publishing if you become known as an excessive clicker.

thanks again for the link up
