Sail and Anchor Brewery

Next time you eat or drink, take a moment to consider who is behind your food or beverage, and consider their passion and skill in preparing it.

Because of my work with brew.com.au, I have been very lucky to meet some amazing people involved in brewing Australian beer. Recently, I got to spend a few hours on a sunny weekday afternoon at the Sail and Anchor brewery, Fremantle.

The oldest brewing pub in Australia, the majestic Sail and Anchor is something to see, however the most incredible element is the head brewer there, Richard Moroney, who is just a wealth of knowledge when it comes to beer and brewing, and a passionate advocate for beer in general.

His actual title at his ‘office’ is actually Beer Ambassador, and upon meeting him, you can understand why.

Not only is he a very talented brewer, and makes some great brews, he is also a beer historian, knowing the history of beer intimately, from back in the early times until more recently. All this from a self taught guy, amazing.

I’m very lucky to meet such passionate and successful people just about every day through Port 80 and at Bam Creative - we seem to collect some amazing staff, suppliers, friends and clients.

Thanks everyone for your passion and enthusiasm, it inspires me daily.

Web2.0 Hype

The whole Web2.0 term isn’t new to me, I have heard it the last few months, but the hype and activity surrounding it is just getting bigger and bigger by the day…we better be heading towards 3.0 very soon.

At we05, someone made some remark about how long will it take before someone starts setting up sites that combine all the best of flickr, technorati, blogger, etc…

Marc Andreesen* and team must have heard them, as the other day Ning was launched into Beta mode. I’ve yet to play with it much, but it’s bringing the whole 2.0 thing to the forefront - or is it that the days I heard all those great speakers mention 2.0, it’s having an effect?

Check out Techcrunch.com for a good run-down on where the app’s are. Also see Emily Chang’s site.

My talk today, ECU

For Sale

I did a talk today for final year multimedia and computer science students at Edith Cowan University. There was only about 40 or 50, but I felt much more relaxed than my previous speaking gigs there.

20 slides and 30 minutes later, I covered my own web career (11 years of it!), Bam Creative, Port 80 and some general tips on getting out there into the industry. I hope that I managed to either inspire or scare the hell outta these folk - either way, any emotive response is good, yeah?
